Lighting FAQs

Task lighting (under-cabinet LED strips or recessed lights) directly over work surfaces for cooking safety, ambient lighting (string lights or pendant lights) for atmosphere, and pathway lighting around the entertaining area. All must be rated for outdoor (wet) locations.

Ideally yes — a dedicated outdoor circuit prevents tripped breakers when running multiple appliances. GFCI protection is required for all outdoor electrical outlets and fixtures.

Low-voltage solar path lighting can be added without electrical work. For quality task lighting at the cooking area, a proper 120V circuit is strongly preferred — solar doesn't deliver reliable output when you actually need it.

Recessed LED can lights in the pergola or overhead structure are the most popular choice — they're weather-rated, directional, and don't interfere with the sightline. Pendant lights work well over a bar area when hung within a covered space.
