Garage Addition FAQs

Yes — a new garage or garage addition requires a building permit. Setback requirements (distance from property lines) and lot coverage limits apply. We check your zoning before finalizing the design.

Yes — a bonus room or bedroom above a garage is a common addition scope. The garage structure must be designed to support the upper floor load. This is more efficient to build at the same time as the garage than to add later.

A single car garage door is typically 9 feet wide × 7 or 8 feet tall. A two-car door is 16 or 18 feet wide. We design the garage opening to accommodate your vehicles — oversized for trucks and SUVs.

Always — a modern garage needs 20-amp circuits for power tools, EV charging capability (at minimum a 240V circuit rough-in), and lighting. Adding these during construction is straightforward; adding them later is expensive.
